“The way we talk to a child becomes their inner voice”  Peggy O’ Mara

Mindful Parenting Services:

Parent Coaching

In mindful parenting coaching sessions we will establish some very concrete goals, time frames and delineate the steps necessary to achieve them. We will develop and practice strategies to address the parenting challenges in your family. We will stay focused on tracking your progress and evaluating any obstacles that arise. Our work will be time limited and we will decide on the frequency that works for you, from regular 45 min sessions, to more frequent, shorter “check ins” to keep you on track.

Because parent coaching is less about feelings and more about strategies, it can easily be done by phone or video chat as well as in person. Imagine being able to get help with parenting at a time that is most convenient to you, without having to leave your home or find a baby sitter for your children.

Parenting Counseling:

Parenting can be very challenging and trigger our emotions and our own experiences from childhood. Often each parent has their own ideas about how to parent their children and disagreements can arise.   In mindful parenting counseling sessions we will address these emotional issues, improve relationships and communication skills, and develop a deep understanding of the family dynamics, and the reasons for your child’s behavior, If your child has any learning, medical or emotional issues, or if the family is going through a transition, loss, divorce or remarriage, we will explore how this is effecting the family. We will develop specific strategies to improve the family dynamics and facilitate changes in you child’s behavior.

Adult psychotherapy:

Often our own emotional and life issues interfere with our ability to be the parent we want to be. Individual psychotherapy can be immensely helpful to address these blocks. My approach is eclectic and has evolved over my 30 years in practice. I believe strongly that my role is to facilitate each person’s innate ability to understand themselves, heal old trauma, and develop new ways of living that are more successful and fulfilling. I use mindfulness techniques, cognitive – behavioral therapy, EMDR, guided imagery, and a number of mind-body techniques to offer deep understanding and healing as well as develop a fuller range of coping and life skills.

Workshops and Trainings

I offer workshops and trainings to schools and organizations to teach mindfulness skills to parents. I also speak on various other topics of interest to parents, including: How to Talk to Children, Raising Emotionally Healthy Children, Positive Parenting, Sibling Rivalry.

My Mindful Parenting series is designed as six 2 hour sessions to be offered weekly for 6 weeks. The format includes a combination of lecture, discussion, practice and homework. While most workshops focus on the child’s behavior, this one focuses on helping parents use mindfulness skills to become more self aware and parent from a place of calm, compassion and choice.

The workshop offers insights into the reasons underlying children’s behaviors and explore various strategies for addressing problematic behaviors..

I create a comfortable, accepting learning environment which is interactive, experiential, lively and fun.
