Robin Bezark, LCSWRobin Bezark, LCSW

I have worked with children, adolescents and adults for over 30 years in residential treatment centers, schools, psychiatric hospitals, addiction treatment centers and private practice. My experience with leading groups includes, running parenting workshops, adolescent groups, recovery groups, mindful eating groups, and experiential psychotherapy groups using psychodrama, art therapy, and guided imagery.

I love what I do and am always learning and growing as a professional. My personal journey as a parent, wife, daughter and friend significantly informs my work as well.

My Approach

I weave together a variety of techniques tailored to meet your unique needs and to facilitate deep, lasting change. Through mindful attention, I will help you become aware of the connection between your thoughts, emotions and body sensations. Our minds and bodies are deeply connected and influence each other constantly. We hold past experiences, stress, emotion and trauma in our bodies and our bodies react to these factors, often seeming to have a “mind of their own” . This explains why we may intend to act one way in a give situation, yet actually react very differently. Working with the body helps to actually experience a situation differently, which opens up many new, more helpful ways of acting. Together we will develop and practice alternative coping skills and more adaptive ways of dealing with life’s challenges.

I am certified in hypnosis and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and trained in psychodynamically oriented psychotherapy, art therapy, play therapy, psychodrama, addictions treatment, Accelerated Emotional Dyadic Processing (AEDP), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, attachment theory and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) founded by Francine Shapiro is a well researched therapeutic process designed to lessen the power of traumatic memories and beliefs. EMDR recognizes that we store painful memories in our bodies causing us to overreact physically and emotionally to certain triggers in daily life. Using eye movements, sound or pulsations EMDR helps reprocess these memories and facilitates our natural ability to heal and grow.

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, founded by Pat Ogden, PhD., uses mindfulness to help individuals develop an awareness of the inter-relationship between their thoughts, feelings and emotions. This awareness of body sensation helps to heal from traumatic experiences, change unproductive habitual patterns and become more confident and calm in handling life challenges.
